Hurkacz Cruising in Paris

Huber Hurkacz is in round three of Roland Garros and he has not dropped a single set so far. It’s pretty rare for an event where many seeds have already been beaten as well as big names dropping sets against lesser players.

It’s not even the case that Hurkacz played against bad opposition. First, he bested Giulio Zeppieri a very solid clay player and Marco Cecchinato who has been superb in this event so far. The win over Cecchinato was particularly impressive.

He served 5 aces, he hit 30 winners and committed only 13 errors. When you play that well it’s pretty given that you are going to win the match. He did not even face a single break points despite playing an opponent who was quite solid.

Against Goffin, he will face a tricky challenge but he will have a recent experience from which he can learn what he needs to do better to win. It’s probably going to be a long one so his stamina will be tested as well.

Solid, solid from Goffin

David Goffin has been playing a very solid clay season that has been part of his resurgence this year. The Belgian won a trophy on the surface this year and he recently beat his next opponent in Rome.

He’s been somewhat shaky in Paris dropping a set in each encounter but in reality, very few players have not dropped at least one set so far at the French Open. In both matches, he played the blueprint has been quite similar. Good serves and attacking play.

In neither of those matches did Goffin post an absurd stat line, he simply played very solid. His opponents were not able to keep up with him and ultimately lost. Hurkacz should be able to keep up with him and that should make for a lengthy and interesting match. Goffin barely beat Hurkacz the last time they played so he will need to dig deep once more.

Stamina might be a factor as well if we got to four or five sets and there Hurkacz should have a slight advantage.

Hurkacz v Goffin Prediction and Tip

So two weeks ago in Rome they faced each other and we saw two tiebreaks. The courts in Rome are much slower than here and that favours Goffin. Hurkacz likes his rallies short and sweet and Paris should give him a chance to do that. It’s hard to really pick who will win this because it might just come down to a couple of tie breaks again.

I’ve been impressed more by Hurkacz in Paris so I will slightly lean towards him but I don’t see either winning in three sets. Momentum swings are typical for clay and we should see a few here. So, Hurkacz to win but in no less than four sets.

Tip: Hurkacz to win in four sets: 4/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
