Irina Begu advanced past Ekaterina Alexandrova in a very controversial match where she bounced a racquet that blew into the stands nearly hitting a kid. The supervisor was called but she only got a warning with the Russian heavily protesting.

Both of Begu’s wins in Paris came after three sets where she outlasted her opponents. In round one she took advantage of a very shaky opponent and a similar thing happened in round two.
She did not play that well in either of those matches committing a lot of errors with very few winners in between. She plays well on all surfaces but prefers to play on faster ones where her serve can do some damage. She likes to keep points brief but can play longer ones as well.
Overall she’s just very solid and that’s it.

Jeanjean’s Fairytale in Paris
Leolia Jeanjean was a superb junior player but her professional career was hampered by a knee injury keeping her away from tennis for two years. Then she elected to study in the US and she never found her big break. Until now.
The 26-year old French Player is in round three taking down two very good players. Both Nuria Parrizas Diaz and Karolina Pliskova are good clay players but neither stood a chance against Jeanjean. It feels to type it out but it truly was like that.
Jeanjean blasted both of the court with her shot-making hitting 28 against Parrizas Diaz and 17 against Pliskova. Both helped her by committing far too many errors but she won’t care. She’s emerged as a fan favourite as well with the crowd filling the stands and backing her loudly in each match.
All of that will help her greatly against a player that has blasted twice as many errors as winners so far at the event.
Begu v Jeanjean Prediction and Tip
So this is a very interesting matchup. Begu is the better player of course but Jeanjean is living a fairytale right now. She is in her native country playing well with the stands cheering her name. That can be a powerful driving force for any player.
So far it’s been like that she struck the ball so clean blasting both opponents away. She could certainly do that to Begu as well. The Romanian had a negative winner-error ratio in both matches and that a recipe for disaster against a player in form. There is very little value in backing Begu so take Jeanjean.
