World No. 20 Daria Kasatkina moved into the fourth round of the French Open for the second time in her career with a third consecutive straight sets win on Saturday.
The Russian, who had two easy first round wins against lucky loser Rebecca Šramková and qualifier Fernanda Contreras Gomez, came up against a tough opponent in World No. 50 Shelby Rogers in the third round, yet needed just an hour and 20 minutes to dispatch the American.
Kasatkina had built a 5-1 lead with two breaks of serves in the first set, before Rogers attempted a comeback by winning consecutive games, but a third break in the set for the Russian sealed the set. Kasatkina dominated the second from the start as well. She didn’t get broken in the set, but broke her opponent twice for a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
Kasatkina will now be aiming to reach a second quarterfinal at Roland Garros. She had reached the last 8 in 2018. Overall, she had been in good form this year, reaching three semifinals, two down under and one in Rome just before the French Open.

Giorgi Stuns Sabalenka
Italy’s Camila Giorgi rallied from a set down to stun seventh seed Aryna Sabalenka and move into the last 16 at Roland Garros for the first time in her ninth appearance.
The 28th seed didn’t hold a single break point in the first set, while her opponent broke her once to take a one set lead. Giorgi made a resounding comeback after going down in the first set as she lost just more game in the match to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-0.
Giorgi had also scored a comeback win in the first round over Zhang Shuai, while she won her second round match against Yulia Putintseva in straight sets.
