Karen Khachanov v Alejandro Tabilo Head to Head
No previous matches have been played between Khachanov and Tabilo before this.
Khachanov Solid on Grass
While Khachanov might prefer playing on hard courts as opposed to the other surfaces – all four of his ATP titles have come on it – his record on grass seems to suggest he doesn’t mind it either.
Having featured in only 29 matches on grass in his career, Khachanov has won 19 of them while losing 10. It’s his inability to go the distance on grass that makes it tougher for him.
Khachanov did made it all the way up to the quarterfinals at Wimbledon last year, his best ever Grand Slam performance so far. Unfortunately as grass court competition schedules go, he hasn’t played any tennis on grass since then and it would be a matter of having to restart afresh from there on.
Fortunately for him, Khachanov starts things off here against a player who is yet to win a main draw match on grass.
Tabilo in Just His Second Grass Court Competition
Chile’s Tabilo is 25 but has featured in only one main draw match on grass. That came at the Queen’s Club competition last season where he was a lucky loser making it to the first round before losing to Aslan Karatsev in three sets.
Tabilo was then knocked out of the Wimbledon qualifiers in his next tournament and hasn’t played on grass since.
The good news for Tabilo is his form on clay has been good enough to see him catapult from outside the top 170 in the rankings last season at around this time to his current 82nd in the world. This allows him a shot at making it to the main draw of these competitions including at the Wimbledon.
The Chilean’s jump in these rankings comes on the back of solid results on clay having made it to the final of the Cordoba Open as a qualifier. A win over Diego Schwartzman in that tournament would have been a huge confidence boost.
That, however, might not be enough for him to shunt past Khachanov here.
Khachanov v Tabilo Prediction and Tip
Khachanov is an overwhelming favourite here, with odds of 3/20 for his win and 1/2 for a straight-set victory. Shouldn’t have too many problems achieving the latter.
