Having missed out on an opportunity to win his first title on British soil since 2o16 last week, Andy Murray is set to make his Stuttgart debut on Tuesday.
The former No. 1 reached the semifinals of the Subriton Trophy last week, but couldn’t make the final of the Challenger tournament after being edged out by Denis Kudla in three sets.
Murray has looked in decent touch this season. He has a 12-8 season record, which includes a runner-up finish in Sydney. In his most recent tour-level tournament, the 35-year-old two-time Olympic champion knocked out Dominic Thiem and Denis Shapovalov to reach the third round in Madrid.
A two-time Wimbledon champion, Murray has an extraordinary 110-23 record on grass courts, which includes eight titles.
He will be looking to get into a good rhythm ahead of Wimbledon.

O’Connell Qualifies for the Main Draw
Facing Murray in the first round will be World no. 116 Christopher O’Connell, who qualified for the main draw by beating two Germans in the qualifying rounds.
O’Connell first defeated Daniel Masur 7-6, 7-5 and then knocked out Peter Gojowczyk 6-3, 6-4 in the second qualifying round on Sunday.
The 28-year-old Aussie also featured in Surbriton, reaching the quarterfinals of the tournament before losing to Jordan Thompson.
The Australian, who won his third Challenger title in Split this year, is 3-7 on the ATP Tour, with two of those wins coming at the Australian Open.
O’Connell will be playing just his second grass court tournament of his career. Last year, in his only appearance he lost in the opening round in Wimbledon.
