Camila Giorgi v Sonay Kartal Head to Head

It was quite a feat considering that the power-hitting Italian had zero form whatsoever coming to Roland Garros. She had lost in each of her three clay-court tournaments prior, and her winless run on tour dated back even further to the Australian Open when she defeated Tereza Martincova in the second round.

Kartal Earns Wild Card at Home Tournament
Sonay Kartal is one of the most consistent performers on the ITF circuit. The 20-year-old British ace has compiled a near-perfect 23-2 record at that level, hoisting almost every single title on offer.
To be precise, Kartal has accumulated four trophies in 2022, all coming on British soil. She had endured a series of injuries in 2021 but has since bounced back with aplomb.
Kartal’s grass-court season began at the Surbiton ITF this past week where she suffered the second defeat of her 2022 season to the experienced American Madison Brengle. Regardless of that result, she was projected to break the Top 300, peaking at a career-high world No. 284.
She is among a host of British names who will feature in Nottingham, earning a deserved wild card at her home tournament. Kartal’s opening-round match against Giorgi will be her first ever on the WTA tour.
