Aryna Sabalenka overcame a tough start to defeat Kateryna Baindl in the first round at ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
The World No. 6 went a break up early in the first set to race to a 3-0 lead, but the Ukrainian won four games in a row to move ahead in the firs set. Sabalenka regrouped quickly, and clinched the last three games to take a one-set lead.
Having captured the first set, she dominated the second, racing to a 5-0 lead before taking the contest 6-4, 6-1.
Last year’s Wimbledon semifinalist, Sabalenka is now a win away from a second quarterfinal in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. She had reached that far in the tournament in 2018.
The win was her 18th main draw win on grass on the tour in her 30th match.
The top seed will now be aiming to reach a fourth quarterfinal this season. She was a runner-up in Stuttgart, a semifinalist at the Italian Open and a quarterfinalist in Doha.

Hartono Wins First Match on Grass
World no. 172 Arianne Hartono scored her first ever grass court win, defeating Australian qualifier Taylah Preston in straight sets.
The 26-year-old Dutch player saved 10 of 16 break points and converted 7 of 12 to win the two-hour-and-20-minute contest 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
The win was also Hartono’s first on the tour this season. She had qualified for the main draw at the Australian Open, but lost in the first round. She also competed at the Charleston Open but couldn’t go past the opening round.
Overall, she improved her season record to 8-11 from all matches.
