Kerber v Kvitova Head to Head

Head to head statistics says it will be a very tough match; in the past, they played each other twelve times and very equality as 6-6 win/loss stats.

Kvitova’s Already Brilliant Start

Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, who would want to clear her bad past results last year in Australia, started her objective with a win over Aryna Sabalenka (6-1, 7-5) in first round of WTA Sydney International.

This win did not get only secure to reach second round but also avenge Kvitova’s last US Open defeat at the hands of the same player. 20-year-old Belarusian defeated Kvitova four months ago.

The second round was a little bit harder for 29-year-old, she really forced by unseeded player Su-Wei Hsieh especially at first set but secured the win straight sets 7-6, 6-2.

The two-time grand slam champion fended of seven out of eight break points despite her low average of winning at second services (40%), wasted a set point in the eighth game, then had to save a set point at 11th game of the first set. Somehow with huge experience, she got the set at tie-break after 55 minutes.

After her injury and six-month long absence in 2017, Kvitova increased her level as much as before in 2018, although she won only one match in Sydney and lost Andrea Petkovic despite two match points at Australian Open last year.

She started 2019 season at Brisbane International last week but lost her second round match against Anett Kontaveit straight sets.

Kerber’s Perfect Run

2018 Wimbledon Champion Angelique Kerber came to Sydney from Hopman Cup where she played final with in good form, got a bye in the first round of the tournament before playing Camila Giorgi. They also played in the semi final here, German had won that match 6-2, 6-3 before she beat Ashleigh Barty at the final a year ago at WTA Sydney International.

This time; German had to work more to prevail over Italian especially in the first set where she had to climb back at 1-3 before sealing the set in a tie-break.

The world number 26, Giorgi who has not played any match after winning the title in Linz, could not overcome her low first serve percentage, faced six break points as a result.

Despite her low percentages too, world number two Kerber had a better second serve points won, and saved five break points of seven to win the set 6-2.

Kerber v Kvitova – Who Will Win?

Australian tennis fans are going to watch Kvitova vs Kerber clash as an early final and big rival scramble.

Their last meeting was at Stuttgart clay court, German won the match 6-3, 6-2 but this is going to be first time they will clash each other after a year and a half in hard courts.

It seems very tough match but we expect Angelique Kerber to continue with her form in the Hopman Cup and win this one.
