Daniil Medvedev v Ilya Ivashka Head to Head
They are 1-1 from their two tour level meetings.
However, they met thrice at the lower level, with Medvedev winning all three of those matches.
Medvedev Begins Grass Season with a Win
Daniil Medvedev, who will return to No. 1 ranking next week, made a winning start to the grass season on Thursday as he knocked out Gilles Simon in the Round of 16 at ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
The Russian, seeded No. 1 in the tournament, made a slow start in the match. Down a break early, he fell 2-5 behind in the first set, needing to save three set points before beginning the turnaround. Medvedev won five games in a row to win the first set.
He continued his dominance in the second, getting an early break and then protecting it till the end, to seal the contest 7-5, 6-4 and reach a second quarterfinal in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Last time he had reached that far in 2017.
With the win, Medvedev improved his season record to 20-7. He is yet to add to his previous 13 titles this season, but had made it to a 23 career final at the Australian Open, falling to Rafael Nadal in five.
Last year, he had won a maiden grass-court title in Mallorca, he will be looking to add another in Rosmalen and will be the favourite against Ivashka on Friday.
Ivashka Tops Ruusuvuori
World no. 49 Ilya Ivashka reached a third quarterfinal of the season with a straight sets win over Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori on Thursday.
The Belarusian didn’t face a single break point in the match, while he broke his opponent once in the first and twice in the second to win the contest 6-4, 6-2 in an hour and 28 minutes.
Ivashka, who is making his main draw debut in the tournament, improved his career grass court record to 9-5. He had begun the tournament with a close three-set win over the United States’ Mackenzie McDonald, winning the contest 6-3, 6-7 (8-10), 6-1.
Ivashka is 10-11 this season, and will be competing in the third quarterfinal of the season, after reaching that far in Marseille and Geneva.
Medvedev v Ivashka Prediction and Tip
