Daniil Medvedev was given a tough fight by Belarus’ Ilya Ivashka in the quarterfinal on Friday, but the Russian found a way to beat the World No. 49 and advance to a third semifinal of the season.

The Australian Open runner-up and the Acapulco Open semifinalist needed an hour and 51 minutes to win the contest 7-6 (10-8), 6-4.

Medvedev won 86% points on the first serve, converted all three of the break points that he held and saved 1 of 3 that he faced to reach the final four of the tournament for the first time in his fourth attempt.

The Russian had begun the tournament with a 7-5, 6-4 win over Gilles Simon. He will reach the World no. 1 ranking on Monday and would look to celebrate that by winning the title in Rosmalen. But he faces a tough semifinal against a player who beat him in ‘s-Hertongenbosch in the Round of 16 in 2016.

Mannarino Rebounds to Beat Nakashima

Adrian Mannarino extended his streak at ‘s-Hertogenbosch to eight matches, as the defending champion knocked out America’s Brandon Nakashima in a comeback win on Friday.

The World no. 70, who had come into the tournament having lost nine of his last 10 matches, including the Surbriton Challenger, is looking eager to defend his Rosmalen title that he won by defeating Jordan Thompson in 2019.

The 33-year-old left-hander began this year’s tournament with straight set wins over Andreas Seppi and Alex de Minaur.

In the quarterfinal on Friday, Mannarino lost the first set in the tiebreak, but made a resounding comeback in the next two to down the World no. 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-4.

Mannarino wasn’t broken in the entire match, while he converted 3 of 6 break points to reach his maiden semifinal of the year.

Medvedev v Mannarino Prediction and Tip

Although Mannarino has dominated the rivalry and is the defending champion, Medvedev will still be the favourite. Expect the Russian to reach to win in three.
