Beatriz Haddad Maia v Tereza Martincova Head to Head

Maia holds a 2-0 lead although, they last met in 2013. Both players have come a long way since.

Maia Stuns Sakkari

Number seven seed Beatriz Haddad Maia has had a pretty spectacular season so far. With her current tally at 27-12 and a career-best ranking of World No. 48, the Brazilian looks determined to go further.

She was quite impressive in the clay swing although, most of that success came in low-tier events. She won the Saint-Malo Challenger and later reached the final in Paris Challenger – singles and doubles. Earlier in the season, Maia was a semifinalist in Monterrey and a runner-up in Australian Open doubles with Anna Dalinina.

In Nottingham, she now finds herself just one win short of her first singles final in almost five years. Her one and only such feat came in the 2017 Korea Open.

So far this week, she has Beatriz has been absolutely brilliant as she dismissed Qiang Wang, Yuriko Miyazaki, and the top-seed Maria Sakkari. The Sakkari win was particularly phenomenal as she fought for two hours and 38 minutes to bag the win with 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Although she has momentum, Maia’s game is still a bit rusty when it comes to top-tier tournaments. Martincova is in a similar tide but that does not mean she can’t fight.

Martincova, Primed for the Final

Nottingham is not unfamiliar territory for Tereza Martincova. She reached the quarterfinal here last season and followed it with a similar run in Birmingham by upsetting Samantha Stosur and Jelena Ostapenko en route.

Thereafter, the 27-year-old Czech reached the third round in Wimbledon to mark her best singles Grand Slam performance.

This season, Martincova has certainly outperformed herself on the grass by reaching the semis here. Her journey was far more convenient than Maia’s as she took out Oceane Dodin, Magda Linette, and Shuai Zhang in straight sets.

Interestingly, it also marks a good turnaround as she endured a disappointing clay season without any main-draw wins. That said, Tereza had a relatively better time on the hard courts as she reached the quarterfinal in St. Petersburg and round three in Doha.

Maia v Martincova Prediction and Tip

Maia may be the odds-on favourite but Martincova seems like she can go the distance. She is a preference for grass and has been waiting for a moment like this for quite some time. It may not be easy and possibly, the match may go to three sets.

All in all, expect an entertaining game of tennis between the two, well-matched opponents.
