Andy Murray v Nick Kyrgios Head to Head

Murray leads 5-1, but they are 1-1 on grass with Kyrgios beating the Scot in their last meeting in Queen’s in 2018.

Murray Stuns Tsitsipas

Andy Murray stunned top seed Stefanos Tsitsipas on Friday to get his first top five win since 2016 and advance to the semifinals of the Stuttgart Open.

Murray showed he still remains a threat on grass as he improved his grass court record to 113-23 with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 win over the Greek, ranked no. 5 in the world.

The former no. 1, who is chasing his ninth title on grass and a 47th career title, is into the semifinals of a tour-level event for the second time this year. He had made it to the final in Sydney only to finish runner-up against Aslan Karatsev.

The Scot has reached the semifinals in Stuttgart without dropping a set. He beat Aussie Christopher O’Connell 6-4, 6-3 and then defeated Alexander Bublik 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).

On Friday, Murray saved a set point against Tsitsipas in the last game of the first set, before holding on to his serve and then edging the tiebreak. In the second, he got the only break of the match in the sixth game. He failed to capitalise on two match points in the eighth game, but eventually served out the match in the next for a convincing win.

The two-time Wimbledon champion is now two wins away from a first title since winning the European Open in 2019.

Kyrgios Advances Following Fucsovics Retirement

Nick Kyrgios reached a second semifinal of the season after his quarterfinal opponent Marton Fucsovics retired while trailing 6-7 (3-7), 0-3.

The World no. 78, who last featured in the semifinals in Houston this year before taking a break, has been in brilliant form this year and Fridays win improved his season record to 12-4.

Kyrgios had won the first round against Jiri Lehecka in straight sets, but had to rally from a set down to beat Nikoloz Basilashvili in the second round on Thursday.

With the win, the 27-year-old is now 27-15 on grass. This is the second time he has reached the semifinals in Stuttgart. He had made it to the final four in 2018, going down to Roger Federer ina thrilling three-setter.

A six time ATP winner from nine finals, the Aussie has never reached a grass court final. Can he achieve that on Saturday.

Murray v Kyrgios Prediction and Tip

Murray has been an exceptional grass court player over the years and he seems to be back at his best. Expect a cracking semifinal, with the Scot extending his dominance over the Aussie.
