Riske Edges Past Golubic

Grass brings the best out of Alison Riske and the World no. 40 made it to a third final on the surface on Saturday with a three-set win over Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic.

The American converted 7 of 12 break points and saved 9 of 14 to beat Golubic 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in two hours and 26 minutes to register her 50th tour-level main draw win on grass courts.

Riske had also taken three sets to win her quarterfinal match, scoring a come-from-behind win over Harriet Dart. She had a relatively easy first two rounds, defeating Daria Snigur of Ukraine and Caroline Garcia in straight sets.

Riske, who won the ‘s-Hertogenbosch title in 2019, has reached the final in Nottingham for the second time. Six years ago, she had finished runner-up to Karolina Pliskova.

A three-time winner from 12 finals, the 31-year-old American was also a finalist in Adelaide this year. Can she win her first Nottingham title on Sunday/

Haddad Maia Advances After Martincova Injury

World No. 48 Beatriz Haddad Maia advanced to a second WTA final in her career after her semifinal opponent Terezza Martincova retired with a right knee injury.

Haddad Maia, who was a finalist in Seoul in 2017, will be aiming for her maiden WTA title on Sunday. The Brazilian made a brilliant start on Monday, dropping just three point on her serve, while breaking the Czech twice to claim the first set 6-3. She got an early break in the second as well and was ahead 4-1 when Martincova retired.

A semifinalist in Monterrey this year, Haddad Maia has displayed great form in WTA 125K events recently, wining the title in Saint Malo and finishing runner-up in Paris, both last month, to peak to a career-high ranking.

Haddad Maia had rallied past China’s Wang Qiang in the first round and then scored a straight sets win over Yuriko Miyazaki in the second round.

Her biggest win came in the quarterfinals when she toppled the top seed Maria Sakkari 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Can she keep the winning run going in the final on Sunday?

Riske v Haddad Maia Prediction and Tip

Haddad Maia topped the top seed Sakkari and has displayed excellent form throughout the tournament. However, she will have her task cut out against Riske. The American has loads of grass court experience and will be in her second Nottingham final. Expect Riske to triumph.
