Rublev Was a Finalist Last Year

Last year’s Halle Open finalist Andrey Rublev will be making his first grass court appearance this season.

In his last action, the 24-year-old Russian went down to Marin Cilic in a dramatic five-set quarterfinal at Roland Garros.

The Russian, ranked No. 8 in the world, has already won three titles this year, in Marseille, Dubai and Serbia, taking his tally to 11 titles from 16 finals. One of those five runner-up finishes came in his only grass court final in Halle last year, as he went down to Ugo Humbert in straight sets in the title clash.

He was also a quarterfinalist in Halle in 2017. Overall, Rublev has an 11-5 record on grass. He will be looking to build on his 29-8 season record in the tournament.

Basilashvili Plagued by Inconsistency

World no. 26 Nikoloz Basilashvili has been very inconsistent this season. He had a 0-6 start to the season before reaching a second consecutive final in Doha, but he couldn’t defend his title, falling to Roberto Bautista Agut.

Since that runner-up finish in Qatar, Basilashvili has not won consecutive matches. Although he will take heart from the fact that he has won his opening match in all of his last six tournaments.

Most recently, he defeated Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti in the first round in Stuttgart, but lost to Nick Kyrgios in the second, despite taking the first set.

He will be desperate to improve on his 9-18 season record, but grass is not his preferred surface, as he has a 12-16 record on it. In Halle, though, he is 4-3 and his run to the final four last year remains his best.

Rublev v Basilashvili Prediction and Tip

Rublev will be the favourite to advance, but given the history of this rivalry, he could be stretched to three by the Georgian.

Tip: Rublev to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
