Sasnovich’s Excellent Run in Sydney

The 24-year-old Belarusian is heading into this match on the back of a pretty decent performance in Sydney so far. She started in the competition as a qualifier and defeated the eighth seed Daria Kasatkina in her opening match.

Thereafter, she defeated Priscilla Hon before edging past the veteran Swiss player Timea Bacsinszky 6-3, 6-3.

Sasnovich had a breakthrough in the previous season when she reached her career-best ranking as the World No. 30. Her notable feats include her performance in Brisbane, where she was the runner-up and at the Wimbledon, where she reached the fourth round.

She also reached the fourth round in New Haven as a qualifier and concluded the season at the Kremlin Cup, where she was a quarterfinalist.

Kvitova’s First Major Win of the Season

Petra Kvitova started her year in Brisbane where she made it as far as the second round where she was defeated by Anett Kontaveit. In Sydney, however, she has put up a much better show.

In her opening match, she defeated the in-form Aryna Sabalenka, who most recently won the title in Shenzhen. After that, she proceeded to move past Su-Wei Hsieh before setting up the quarterfinal showdown with the World No. 2 Angelique Kerber.

Kvitova won that fixture in an hour and 26 minutes with 6-4, 6-1. It was a superb performance by the Czech and now, she finds herself just two wins away from her first title of the season.

Last year, the World No. 8 won many big titles such as WTA Birmingham, Madrid Open, WTA Prague, among others. This season, she looks particularly determined to go the distance.

Kvitova v Sasnovich – Who Will Win?

Head to head speaking, Sasnovich leads her Czech adversary by 1-0. The Belarusian got this win in the first round of the 2018 Wimbledon, where Kvitova was handed a three-set defeat.

This time around, Kvitova will once again start this match as the favourite to win. However, both the players are in a good form and it wouldn’t be surprising to see this one go to three sets.
