From her preferred clay courts to the precarious grass swing, it is not too much of a stretch to say that Sorana Cirstea is likely to be out of her element in England.
She hasn’t fared that well historically and going by the bracket she is in, things are going to be quite difficult for her. The last time Sorana was in Birmingham was in 2013 – back then, she reached the quarterfinal to post her best results in a grass event.
For what it’s worth, the 32-year-old has some momentum this season – she arrived here with a tally of 15-13, ranking World No. 34.
Her highlights include reaching the fourth round in the Australian Open (upsetting Petra Kvitova and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova en route) and BNP Paribas Open, and semifinals in Lyon and Istanbul.

Rogers, Cruising on Momentum
Shelby Rogers, unlike her Romanian counterpart, got an early start on the grass proceedings with a semifinal stint in ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
The 29-year-old achieved that rare feat after upsetting Vitalia Diatchenko, Elena Rybakina, and Kirsten Flipkens. While she ultimately lost to Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets, Rogers did do it in her first semifinal since the 2020 WTA Lexington.
Shelby has had her moments this season too; she reached the third round in Miami and Indian Wells after defeating the likes of Jelena Ostapenko and Amanda Anisimova. In the French Open, the current world number 42 upset Tereza Martincova and Danielle Collins to make it to the round of 32.
Earlier in the season, the American also defeated Maria Sakkari in the Australian Open.
Rogers v Cirstea Prediction and Tip
This is going to be a good match; Rogers is the clear favourite here and should do well to win this one comfortably. After all, she has the rhythm and a strong record on grass. Cirstea may put up a fight but barring any fitness concerns from Rogers, it is hard to imagine her win this one.
