Ekaterina Alexandrova v Maryba Zanevska Head to Head

They have met twice before on the junior circuit, both matches taking place in France, and Alexandrova winning each time in straight sets.

Rosmalen Winner Alexamdrova

Another player denied the chance to appear at Wimbledon this year because of the ban on Russian players, Alexandrova was not meant to be playing in Berlin originally.

However, when Leylah Fernandez dropped out she was invited to take her place. But for her late inclusion in the lists, she would probably have been seeded.

She arrives in Berlin a winner though, having just beaten Arnya Sabalenka (another one excluded from Wimbledon this year) claiming her second WTA tour title, and her first since Shenzhen two years ago.

Having also reached the semi-finals of Madrid in singles and Miami in doubles, she is a strong vein of form currently and will be looking to go far in this event as well.

Belgian Number Two Zanevska

Despite being born in Ukraine, Zanevska has been training in Belgium, since the age of eight and received Belgian citizenship in 2018, and plays Billie Jean Cup tennis for them.

She won her maiden WTA title last year at the Poland Open, and also appeared in four finals on the Challenger tour, winning two of them.

Currently the number two ranked Belgian player behind Alison van Uytvabck, she does not have a good record on grass, and, the only time she qualified for the main draw at Wimbledon, back in 2017, she was beaten in the first round.

She was last in action at the French Open where she also suffered a first round defeat, beaten in straight sets by Qinwen Xheng of China.

Alexandrova v Zanevska Prediction and Tip

On paper at least this seems a mis-match between a woman who has just won a major grass court tournament and one who struggles on the surface. Zanevska’s best chance may be to hope that Alexandrova is tired after her exertions in Holland. That may though not be enough for the Belgian.

Tip: Alexandrova to win in straight sets: 5/9 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
