Ruse on a Three-Match Losing Streak

World No. 55 Elena-Gabriela Ruse will be playing her first tournament since making a first round exit from the French Open.

The Romanian is on a three-match losing streak with her last win coming over Shelby Rogers in the first round in Rome. Ruse, who won her maiden title in Hamburg last year and finished runner-up in Palermo, has not won consecutive main draw matches on the tour this year.

She brings a 6-10 record to Birmingham, where she will be making her debut. Grass has not been the most productive surface for her, with a run to the quarterfinals in Nottingham in 2019 being her best. She has not won a match at Wimbledon but qualified twice for the main draws.

Can she make an impact on grass this year?

Wang in Good Touch This Season

World no. 146 Qiang Wang has displayed good form throughout the season. The 30-year-old Chinese player was a semifinalist in Guadalajara and a quarterfinalist in Monterrey. She also made it to the third round of the Australian Open.

A two-time tour-level champion, Wang was the runner-up in Emilia Romagna last season.

On grass, she made her season debut in Surbriton Challenger, winning her opener but falling in the next round. Last week, in Nottingham, she took the first set against the eventual champion Beatriz Haddad Maia in the opener, but fell in three.

Wang had made it to the third round of Wimbledon in 2019 and has won an ITF title on the surface as well. Overall at the tour level, she is 4-8 on the surface but that record can improve in Birmingham.

Elena-Gabriela Ruse v Qiang Wang Prediction and Tip

Wang was edged out by Haddad Maia in Nottingham, but she displayed good form there. Expect her make a winning start in Birmingham.
