This will be a first meeting between the two.
Krajinovic Bounces Back to Beat Querrey
Having lost all four of his previous tour-level grass court matches, Serbia’s Filip Krajinovic won his first match on the surface on Tuesday, beating Jenson Brooksby in the first round in straight sets.
He added a second win on the surface on Thursday, rallying to beat another American Sam Querrey in three and advancing to his second quarterfinal of the season.
Krajinovic, who improved to 14-11 in 2022 following Thursday’s second round win, was a semifinalist in Montpellier earlier this year.
The 30-year-old Krajinovic lost the first set after dropping serve in the fifth game, but he bounced back in the contest, breaking Querrey once in each of the second and third sets and sealing the contest 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in an hour and 37 minutes.
Krajjinovic served just six aces, 13 fewer than the American but he won the key moments to prevail in the contest. on Tuesday, the Serbian had beaten Brooksby 6-4, 6-3.
Peniston’s Dream Debut Continues
Ryan Peniston continued to impress on his ATP Tour debut as the Briton edged past Francisco Cerundolo in the second round on Thursday.
Peniston had a dream start to his career, when he shocked French Open finalist Casper Ruud 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-2) in the opening round on Tuesday.
Against Cerundolo, Peniston was off to a flying start, dropping just seven points in the first set before bagelling the Argentine. He conceded an early break in the second though, but couldn’t break back as the World No. 46 clawed his way back into the contest by forcing the decider.
Cerundolo broke Peniston’s serve in the first game of the third to seize the early advantage, but the spirited Briton fought back, breaking the Argentine in the eighth game and then breaking again in the 10th to clinch the contest 6-0, 4-6, 6-4.
Can he keep the dream run going?
