Veronika Kudermetova v Anna Kalinskaya Head to Head
There have been previous meetings between but only one of them has been at this level – it came in Chicago last year and Kudermetova had won that opening round encounter in three sets.

Kudermetova has been looking to break into the top 20 of the WTA Rankings for a while now and a solid performance this week that sees her go the distance might help her in that regard.
Especially now that she knows she wouldn’t be participating at Wimbledon, Kudermetova’s eye will be on this last grass court competition for the season in the hope she can go the distance here.
The world number 24 enters this tournament on the back of a semifinal appearance at Rosmalen last week where she had downed Belinda Bencic to get to that stage. She also entered the quarterfinal earlier this week in Berlin where Bencic had her sweet revenge but not before the match had gotten into a third set.
And as a result of those showings, despite coming up against the vastly-improved and countrywoman Kalinskaya, Kudermetova wouldn’t be too perturbed in this opener given her own form. Expecting her to do well in this competition and this to be just the first step towards a long stride.

Kalinskaya with Back to Back Opening Wins
As the luck of draw has it, Kalinskaya, whose best ranking has been 75th in the world, has been drawn to face the in-form Kudermetova. Because her performances from recent times exhibit the kind of sparkle which could be aided majorly by drawing on slightly easier opponents than her Russian counterpart this early in the tournament.
Kalinskaya made it to the second round at both, Rosmalen and Berlin, defeating Suzan Lamens in the former and Alize Cornet in the latter competition.
However, in both those tournaments, Kalinskaya fell to second round losses and to the same player – Belinda Bencic. Interestingly, Kudermetova also faced Bencic in both these tournaments, winning and losing once.
Ranked 81st in the world at the moment, Kalinskaya now has a tough ask of her to make it three opening wins in a row but given her form, one can expect her to give Kudermetova bit of a fight.
Kudermetova v Kalinskaya Prediction and Tip
Kudermetova will be a straightforward pick for a win here but the path to that victory might not be a straightforward one. A three-setter can be expected.
