Claire Liu is a former juniors world number 1 who has lifted both the singles and doubles title at the Wimbledon Juniors.
She is also currently one of the in form players in the tour, lifting the WTA Paris title and finishing runners up in WTA Rabat last month. Both events were on clay.
She played in WTA Gaiba last week to prepare for her Wimbledon campaign. She won the first round against exciting youngster Rebeka Masarova. In the second round she lost to veteran Tatjana Maria in an intense 3 setter.
Liu is a technically brilliant player being adept off both wings and has very good court coverage. She is also a good doubles player and is great at the net volleys.
The American is a highly rated youngster and will hope to translate her recent success on clay to grass.

Niemeier Looking to Replicate Clay Success on Grass
Young German player, Jule Niemeier had incredible success on clay this season finishing 18-4. Her highlight was winning the WTA 125K clay event in Makarska in the beginning of this month.
She debuted on grass this season in Berlin where she lost to current finalist Belinda Bencic in the first round. It was a close match which Bencic won 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.
Niemeier doesn’t have much experience on grass having only played 7 matches on this surface all career. She is known to play her best tennis on clay.
She is only 22 and is currently ranked 2 places below her highest ranking of 94. This season is turning out to be her breakthrough season and she is not far from making a deep run in a major tournament.
