Frances Tiafoe v Alexander Bublik Head to Head

Frances Tiafoe fell to a shock first-round defeat at London’s Queens Club against Stan Wawrinka. After his second-round exit at Roland Garros, Tiafoe appeared in a hurry to get things moving speedily on the grass. But in Wawrinka, the American could not quite deal with the ferocity of the Swiss’ shots in the most crucial moments.
Both players put on a show of grasscourt excellence, with winners from nearly every side of the court, deft touches, and some crisp hitting from the baseline. Ultimately though, Tiafoe fell short in three tiebreak sets, in a match that could have easily swung his way.
But despite that defeat at Queens, Tiafoe remains a perennial danger on the surface. Last year he won the Nottingham Challenger before going on to stun Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first round of the Wimbledon Championships.
This year the 24-year-old has attained a Grand Slam seeding spot, which means he is unlikely to encounter a Top 10 opposition in his earlier rounds. But before Tiafoe contemplates the grass-court slam, he will need to get some much-needed minutes under his belt on the surface at Eastbourne.

Bublik Far from Perfect
Since capturing the first ATP title of his career in Montpellier earlier this year, things have gone downhill for the ostentatious Alexander Bublik.
The Kazakh star made waves in southern France during the indoor hard-court season in February when he swatted aside Alexander Zverev to clinch the Montpellier crown. Bublik would peak at a career-high ranking of No. 30, but appears in danger to go outside the world’s Top 40 in the coming weeks.
Another lackluster showing in Eastbourne could cost him a seeding spot at Wimbledon and that would put him in a precarious position of possibly drawing any of the world’s Top 32 seeds.
Bublik has been in terrible form in the past few months, having not gone beyond the second round at any tour-level tournament since the Indian Wells Masters in the middle of March. Last week he gave a good account of himself at Queens where he lost to Marin Cilic 7-6 7-5.
Tiafoe v Bublik Prediction and Tip
This should be a cracking contest. I thought Tiefoe played well against Wawrinka with just a few finer details to work on. Bublik has not been at his best in recent weeks but remains a sterner test on grass.
