As incredible as it sounds, Federico Delbonis has never won an official match on grass. I don’t think he ever won an unofficial one either but we don’t know for sure. He’s 0-11 all time and it’s explainable. There are no grass courts in Argentina and there is very little incentive to even have one.
A couple of events in the years don’t mean much to a country that has built its entire tennis pedigree on clay courts. Delbonis is no different and his best tennis comes on the red dirt. It’s not been a good year though as he’s 9-16 overall with poor play on clay as well.
Somewhat strangely he had a major breakout year last year, particularly on clay. Generally, Delbonis plays only Wimbledon but this year he opted for some practice. At 0-11, it’s very much needed. He got a qualifier so that’s good now he just needs to win.
Not playing since Roland Garros might be an issue.

Bellier Battling Through Qualies
Antoine Bellier is not a particularly young player but he’s neither an experienced veteran. He’s played plenty of tennis this season though with a 27-17 record. He’s 6-3 on grass so he can certainly play well on the surface. Swiss players except for Roger Federer generally don’t do that well on grass but seems like Bellier might be a decent one.
Most of these matches came on challenger events and there are no standout wins there. It’s mostly wins over players that he might beat generally as well. Certainly no player in the top 100. Delbonis is a top 100 player but on grass he might as well be top 200. It’s a solid chance for Bellier to get a win and a chance to play in the 2nd round.
he already played two matches here and he won so he knows the court and the conditions far better than Delbonis. He’s actually won matches on this surface in his career which should help. Just a great chance for him, let’s see if he can handle it.
Delbonis v Bellier Prediction and Tip
So this for me is quite simple. I can’t in good faith back a player that’s never won a match on grass before. He’s over 30 years old, he’s been a pro for more than that and I just can’t do it. Yes, he’s a better player than his opponent but on grass he might as well lose to me.
Bellier played well in the qualies and I back him to continue winning in Mallorca. The value is there.
