Petra Kvitova v Katie Boulter Head to Head
This will be a first meeting between the two.
Kvitova Knocks Out Vekic
Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova registered her first grass court win of the season as the World No. 31 knocked out qualifier Donna Vekic in the second round on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old left-hander, who had a first-round bye, was dominant in the first set, breaking the Croatian twice to take the first set. Both players were brilliant on their serves in the second set. Kvitova dropped just three of her 31 service points, while Vekic dropped 12 of 37 but didn’t face a single break point. However, it was the Czech who ran away with the tiebreak to clinch the contest 6-1, 7-6 (7-1) in an hour and 14 minutes.
Kvitova, who was a runner-up in Eastbourne in 2011, improved her career grass court record to 62-22 with the win. She was ousted by Beatriz Haddad Maia in the first round in Birmingham last week, but got her first win on the surface on Tuesday.
A quarterfinalist in Dubai and Miami this year, Kvitova had a rough clay season, finishing with a 1-4 record and is 1-1 on grass. She will be hoping to get a few more wins in Eastbourne to get into a rhythm ahead of Wimbledon.
Boulter Bounces Back Against Pliskova
Britain’s Katie Boulter fought back from a set down to edge past fourth seed Karolina Pliskova in the second round on Tuesday.
Pliskova raced to a 5-0 lead before taking the first set with ease, but Boulter bounced back in the second, breaking the World no. 7 twice, while getting broken just once to force the decider.
In the third, Pliskova came back from a break down twice, but the Briton got a decisive break in the 10th game to win the match 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 in just over two hours.
Boulter had beaten another Czech, Terezza Martincova 7-5, 7-6 (7-5) in the opening round and ill battling a third Czech in three days in Round 3. Can the 25-year-old World No. 127 keep the momentum going? She has improved to 5-2 on grass this season and a win on Wednesday could take her into second consecutive quarterfinal, following the last eight finish in Birmingham.
Kvitova v Boulter Prediction and Tip
This is going to be an interesting battle. Kvitova is still trying to find form, while Boulter has looked in terrific touch. The Czech’s experience, however, should help her sail through.
