Simona Halep v Amanda Anisimova Head to Head

They are 1-1 from their previous meetings; both of them were at Roland Garros with Anisimova winning in 2019 and Halep in 2020.

Halep Powers Past Zidansek

World No. 19 Simona Halep needed just 66 minutes to dispatch Slovenia’s Tamara Zidansek and advance to the quarterfinal of the Bad Homburg Open. She will now be aiming to reach a second consecutive semifinal on grass, having also reached that far in Birmingham last week, before being bundled out by Beatriz Haddad Maia.

Halep’s had a good year so far, improving to 25-8 with the win. She captured her 23rd tour-level title by winning the Melbourne Summer Set 1 tournament and also reached the final four in Dubai and Indian Wells.

The 2019 Wimbledon champion had rallied to beat the Czech Republic’s Katerina Siniakova 4-6 6-3, 6-4 in the first round on Tuesday.

In the second round on Wednesday, the Romanian dropped just one point on her serve in the first set and converted half of the six break points she held to bagel Zidansek.

She was broken in the very first game of the second set, but quickly found her rhythm back and finished off the match by winning five consecutive games to record a 6-0, 6-3 victory.

Can she keep the winning run going in the quarterfinal against a tough opponent?

Anisimova Makes Quick Work of Li

American Amanda Anisimova showed brilliant form as she defeated compatriot Ann Li 6-0, 6-2 in just 50 minutes.

Playing her first tournament on grass this year, Anisimova saved both the break points that she faced against Li, while converting five of eight to reach the last eight in the tournament for the second year in a row. Last year, she was stopped by Angelique Kerber in the quarterfinals.

Wednesday’s win was much easier one for Anisimova, as she had to bounce back after losing the first set to fend off Alison Van Uytvanck in the opening round.

The 20-year-old American, who won her second WTA title by winning the Melbourne Summer Set 2 crown earlier this year, is 25-9 this season. She doesn’t have a lot of grass experience but will be competing in her third grass court quarterfinal on Thursday.

Halep v Anisimova Prediction and Tip

While both have progressed following crushing wins in the second round, it is Halep who will hold the edge. She is far more experienced on the surface and will be eager to take a step closer to a 42nd tour-level final. Expect Halep to win in three and enter the semifinals.
