Tsitsipas Has Had Grass Struggles

For most part of his recent career, Tsitsipas has been a top-10 player and one of those aiming to win a Grand Slam. He hasn’t come very close to doing that but that doesn’t take away from the fact Tsitsipas is a force to reckon on all surfaces…

…except may be grass.

And the difference is quite stark too. Because while he has won 77 of his 102 matches on clay court surfaces and is 137-73 on hard courts, the Greek number one has won and lost 10 matches on grass (not counting his performances in the ongoing Mallorca Open).

Take the example of 2022 itself. Tsitsipas started off on grass in Stuttgart where, following a first round bye and a win over Dominik Stricker, he fell to Andy Murray in straight sets.

Another opening win followed at Halle before Tsitsipas lost to Nick Kyrgios in the second.

These are defeats he can do well without given his ultimate quest but would he manage to do that in this competition this season? The jury is out on that one.

Ritschard in His First Season on Grass

He is 28 years of age, has been playing tennis since 2009 but Ritschard had never played a match on grass till before this season.

This includes a match at any level of tennis – Futures, Challengers or at the highest rung of ATP tennis! 13 years after making his competitive tennis debut, Ritschard finally took part in the Ilkey Challenger where he was put to the sword in the very first round by Lucas Lacko.

Turning his attention to Wimbledon, and Ritschard did start off as a favourite in all three of his qualifier rounds, overcoming Stuart Parker, Nicholas Kicker and Duje Ajdukovic and won them for the loss of just one set.

Now up against Tsitsipas, Ritschard will have his task cut out but would hope to just go out there and soak in the occasion instead of thinking through too much about the result.

Tsitsipas v Ritschard Prediction and Tip

Tsitsipas’ struggles on grass notwithstanding, he should not face too much of a challenge here and should come through in straight sets.

Tip: Tsitsipas to win in straight sets: 1/4 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
