Novak Djokovic v Soon-woo Kwon Head to Head

There has been one previous match between these two players and Djokovic had defeated Kwon on the clay courts of Belgrade last year. It could get a lot easier for Djokovic on clay.

Djokovic Starts Quest for Major No. 21

Djokovic will be gunning for his 21st Grand Slam title and his seventh at Wimbledon when he takes to court for this first round match. And surprise, surprise, the Serb won’t be the world number one or two heading into this tournament.

Having been unable to participate at the Australian Open earlier this year and having crashed out of the French Open in the quarterfinal – losing to Rafael Nadal – Djokovic has fallen to the third in the spot on the rankings.

That, however, shouldn’t bother Djokovic too much – he starts off as the top seed anyway – because of his penchant for grass and the lack of the kind of opposition that could stall his chances of adding another Grand Slam title to his repertoire.

This year, Djokovic has a 16-5 win-loss record, which by anyone’s standards is solid but by his own, the Serb would have wanted to do a lot more than that. Especially given he won 56 of his 63 matches last season.

Can Djokovic add to his one singles tournament he has won this year by making it the big one on grass, as he starts his title defence in this first round encounter?

Kwon on a Four-Match Losing Streak

Things haven’t look great for Kwon all season but even more so in recent times. Early in the year, Kwon had a run of seven successive competitions in which he reached the second round.

A couple of Davis Cup victories followed but following that, the results have gone kaput for him.

In the 13 main draw matches that have followed since then, Kwon has won just three and lost a whopping 10 – which includes a four-match losing streak coming into Wimbledon. Two of these four defeats have been on grass – one in the first round of the Surbiton Challenger and then again in Rosmalen.

With that kind of an appalling record, going up against the three-time defending champion, is a recipe for a total disaster.

Kwon will need more than a mini-miracle here to even stretch his opponent in one of the sets.

Djokovic v Kwon Prediction and Tip

Djokovic cannot get an easier opening round match than a struggling Kwon. Straight-set win but also less than 30 games in the encounter.

Tip: Djokovic to win in straight sets: 1/3 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
