Andy Murray v James Duckworth Head to Head

There have been two previous matches between these players and Murray has won them both. They came at the 2018 US Open and the 2019 Brisbane International, both on hard court surfaces.

Murray Coming off Solid Grass Court Showing

Injuries have become a part and parcel of Murray’s recent career but he has done rather well in managing them and still featuring regularly on the tour.

That is exactly what he would hope is the case when he takes to court for his opening round match at Wimbledon; he is able to put his mind away from the fitness concerns that made him withdraw from the Queen’s Club competition after a couple of solid showings before that.

Murray had earlier reached the semifinal at the Surbiton Challenger where he was downed by Denis Kudla and then usurped Alexander Bublik, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios to make it to the final of the Stuttgart Open.

And while that defeat in Stuttgart to Matteo Berrettini was followed by that pullout in Queen’s, Murray enters Wimbledon this year with a lot more confidence about his own abilities than he has in recent times.

Duckworth Hasn’t Won a Match All Year

Fitness concerns have made life difficult for Duckworth this year and that can be seen from both, his layoff and the lack of victories in main draw of competitions.

The Aussie did not participate in any competitive tennis between January and May and even when he came back, he has only won a couple of qualifiers.

Those came at Eastbourne, allowing him to make it to the main draw where Duckworth lost to Lorenzo Sonego in his opener – it was his ninth main draw defeat for the season to go with no wins.

Duckworth will need to look deep within himself for motivation because it’s probably not coming through from anywhere else. And the one place he could look at is his performance at Wimbledon last year where he made a career-best third round.

Can he cause a bit of a flutter here?

Murray v Duckworth Prediction and Tip

Murray is 1/5 to win this and it comes as no surprise why he starts as such an overwhelming favourite. If fit, we can expect him to run through his opponent here and in straight sets too.
