Rybakina Makes Slow Start on Grass

Rybakina’s record on grass before this season had been one to watch out but she hasn’t quite been able to kick-start this grass swing with results worth looking at.

In the two full seasons of grass court tennis that Rybakina had been a part of, the Kazakh had made the semifinal at Rosmalen in 2019 and followed it up with another semifinal appearance in Eastbourne last year.

And with the confidence that came from those two, Rybakina then made it as far as the fourth round at the 2021 Wimbledon before Aryna Sabalenka got the better of her.

This year, there has been none of that for the Kazakh.

She has featured in two grass court competitions and won a grand total of one match. A first round loss to Lesia Tsurenko after being a set up at Eastbourne would have specially hurt.

Rybakina was to play Shuai Zhang in the opener earlier but a reshuffle in the draw has meant she has been re-drawn to take on a lucky loser making it slightly easier for her.

Vandeweghe Makes it Through as a Lucky Loser

After having made it as far as the quarterfinal at the Charleston Open earlier this April, Vandeweghe’s form has fallen by the wayside.

The world number 160 went on a five-match losing streak on clay which included three successive first round losses in ITF tournaments, and then while she showed some of her old spark in an ITF tournament grass, the results haven’t quite been as good at the highest level.

The American was a semifinalist at the Surbiton ITF competition and while she qualified for the Birmingham Open after that, an opening defeat to Donna Vekic followed.

Here at Wimbledon, she registered two easy wins before losing to unheralded Mawa Chwalinska in the third but has made it through after Madison Keys pulled out of the tournament.

Can she make it count?

Rybakina v Vandeweghe Prediction and Tip

Rybakina’s poor form on grass this season might given Vandeweghe a bit of a chance here but we are still looking at a straight-set win for the Kazakh.

Tip: Rybakina to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
