Jodie-Anna Burrage v Lesia Tsurenko Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 23-year old Englishwoman, and Tsurenko, who is a decade older.

Wildcard Burrage Shocked World Number Four at Eastbourne

This is the second consecutive year that Burrage has been given a wildcard to Wimbledon. She made her Grand Slam debut here last year, although she did not get beyond the first round.

However, she might feel she is better prepared for the challenge this time round, having recently reached her highest ever singles’ ranking.

And she has already shown that she in good form on grass.  At the ITF tournament in Surbiton, she reached the final before losing to the Hungarian Dalma Galfi.

And, then, last week in Eastbourne, she managed the biggest win of her career to date, beating the world number four, Paula Badosa of Spain, before losing to the Brazilian, and Birmingham winner, Beatriz Haddad Maia.

Tsurenko Returns After Three Year Absence

It has been three years since Tsurenko last competed at Wimbledon.

In her previous visits, the best she managed was a third round appearance in 2017. That was also the year since she won the third of her four WTA titles in Mexico, but her form and ranking have dipped considerably since then.

Her grass court seas9on began in Birmingham, where she came through the qualifying competition, only to lose to Simona Halep in the first round.

Again made to qualify in Eastbourne, she did much better, reaching the semi-finals with wins over Camila Osorio, Elena Rybakina, and Magda Linette. She too, was due to play Haddad Maia but withdrew from their match after a slight muscle sprain as a precautionary measure.

Burrage v Tsurenko Prediction and Tip

Burrage will feel confident after her exploits in Eastbourne, and will not lack for home support, but she is playing an opponent who went even further than her last week, and is an experienced campaigner at Grand Slam level.
