Tan Knocks Out Tormo

It has been quite a week for the 24-year-old Harmony Tan. In the opener, she fought Serena Williams and fought for a little over three hours to take the match 7-5, 1-6, 7-6(10).

Tan delivered what was undoubtedly one of the biggest wins of her career albeit, it did come at the expense of Williams’ 54 unforced errors to Tan’s 28. The American was competing in her first professional match in quite some time and did enjoy some glorious moments.

This was followed by her withdrawal from the doubles due to fitness concerns, much to the chagrin of her partner Tamra Korpatsch. The young German took it to social media to criticize Tan for her late decision that rendered her unable to compete in the doubles draw on her debut. She apologised later and wish the Frenchwoman the best for her next match.

Up until now, Harmonay’s tally for the year has been 13-16, ranking World No. 115. Three of those wins came last month in the Gaiba Challenger, where she built her form after beating Lucia Bronzetti and Ana Bogdan.

But the past doesn’t matter. Tan will walk away with career-high prize money and some confidence for the next leg.

Boulter Moves Past Pliskova

One of the reasons why this clash is so exciting is because Boulter’s journey has been similar too, and she now has a chance to prove herself among the home crowd.

The Brit, age 25, won at least two matches in her three preceding grass events – Eastbourne, Birmingham, and Nottingham. While she couldn’t go further, Boulter did beat a few prominent names like Karolina Pliskova, Tereza Martincova, Caroline Garcia, and Tatjana Maria.

Katie has continued in the same vein in London, moving past Clara Burel and then Pliskova once again.

This match was another three-setter that ended with a 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-4 win for the current World No. 118.

On the whole, Boulter will benefit from her superiority on the grass turf and experience backed by a quality season (20-8 as of Friday).

Tan v Boulter Prediction and Tip

There is not a whole lot that separates the two players; they have had similar journeys of late although, Tan has seen a lot more drama and that may hinder her game on Saturday.

Boulter, on the other hand, has the home advantage and form – with the crowd rooting for her, she can definitely go further.
