Dominic Thiem v Emil Ruusuvuori Head to Head
There have been no previous matches between these two at the ATP level but they did face off in 2019 at the Davis Cup. Ruusuvuori had won that encounter in straight sets.

Thiem looked to have done what not many saw coming in the era of the Big Three – win a Grand Slam. That happened at the 2020 US Open when Thiem defeated Alexander Zverev in a solid final to lift the trophy.
Since then, not many, including Thiem himself, have been able to figure out what’s gone wrong for the former world number three.
In 2021, Thiem won just nine of the 19 matches he played in before calling off the season because of fitness concerns. And this year, Thiem is yet to win a match at the highest level.
In fact the only match Thiem has won on the ATP circuit since May 2021 came at the Salzburg Challenger last week when he laboured to a win over Filip Misolic. Facundo Bagnis sent him packing in the second round there.

Ruusuvuori Hoping for Clay Improvement
Ruusuvuori doesn’t enjoy clay as much as he does the other surfaces but one can call his performance on red dirt this season a slightly improved one.
Starting out as a qualifier in Monte-Carlo, Ruusuvuori made it to the second round and went one better in Barcelona with wins over Feliciano Lopez and Alexander Bublik.
A quarterfinal appearance at Munich would have helped too but since then he has won just one main draw match on clay and lost three of them including the second round at French Open.
He has an opponent who has been so out of sorts that Ruusuvuori starts off a favourite but he would do well to not take things for granted here.

Ruusuvuori starts off a favourite here with bookmakers offering 3/5 for his win. We think till Thiem starts winning consistently, it might not be a bad option to back his opponent, especially at those odds.
