Williams Continues Her Blazing Run

Since her return to the professional circuit this year, Williams has been particularly impressive. The World No. 16 has dominated the tournament so far with absolute ease and has lost only six games in her last two matches.

After moving past Tatjana Maria in the opener with 6-0, 6-2, she went up against the former Canadian No. 1 Eugenie Bouchard. Williams was clinical, as usual, and breezed past her opponent with 6-2, 6-2, in a little over an hour.

In the first set of that second round fixture, Williams was broken a couple of times but she always managed to get back in the game by breaking Bouchard’s service immediately. The American found her rhythm in the second set and quickly brushed off the initial nerves to seal the victory.

Over the course of the match, the 2018 US Open runner-up kept her first-service win rate at 81% – one of the highest in the ladies’ half.

Yastremska’s Best-Run at a Grand Slam

The 18-year-old Ukranian has turned a lot of heads around on the WTA Tour since the start of the season. When she arrived in Melbourne, not many would have predicted her to make it this far and now, Yastremska is about to head into the biggest match of her career.

On her way to the third round, the youngster has defeated two veterans on the circuit. In the first round, she moved past Samantha Stosur with 7-5, 6-2. In the second round, she met the Spaniard Carla Suarez Navarro and needless to mention, she started that match as the underdog.

However, in just an hour and 34 minutes, the World No. 57 defeated Suarez Navarro with 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. She had 32 winners in comparison to the Spaniard’s 12 and approached the net as many as 10 times. Through the match, she produced some excellent shots and played some of the best tennis of her career.

Last season, she won her first WTA singles title in Hong Kong, after defeating Qiang Wang in straight sets. She also played on the ITF circuit to build her form and turns out, it has done well for her. Yastremska started her season outside the top 100 and finished it at the No.57 position in the world.

Williams v Yastremska Head to Head

This will be the first time that one of the most experienced players on the tour will meet the rising, upcoming star from Ukraine.

Williams v Yastremska – Who Will Win?

Serena Williams is backed by her immense experience and not to mention, an incredible game. She has found herself in such situations plenty of times and has emerged as the victor on almost all occasions. As for Yastremska, she will need to keep her calm against a daunting Williams if she wants to deliver the biggest upset of the tournament so far.

This will be an interesting game to see, being a classic battle of experience vs. fresh blood. We can expect Serena to win this one comfortably.
