Anisimova’s Best Performance of Her Career

The young American is making her debut at the Australian Open and so far, she has already delivered the best performance of her young career so far. She has left many players confused and stunned in Melbourne, with Aryna Sabalenka being her most recent prey.

Anisimova started her third round fixture against the Belarusian as the underdog. Being the youngest player in the tournament right now, not many expected her to defeat a roaring Sabalenka, However, by the end of the first set, she had shifted the momentum in her favour.

In just an hour, the young American won the match 6-3, 6-2. She kept her first service win rate at 80% which is on par with that of many top players. More impressively, she boasted of an incredible shot placement coupled with high levels of precision.

On her part, Sabalenka did many things right but Anisimova was just too good. The American had a solid response for every shot that the 11th seed took and with time, she eventually broke her down. In many ways, this win was a personal statement to the rest of the players that she is ready to upset the order.

Prior to facing Sabelenka, Anisimova defeated the 24th seed Lesia Tsurenko 6-0, 6-2. The World No. 87 rose to prominence in 2018 after reaching the final at the WTA Hiroshima.

Kvitova’s Continues Her Flawless Campaign

Petra Kvitova has won all of her previous matches so far in straight sets. The eighth-seeded Czech hasn’t been particularly troubled yet as she looks comfortable and confident. Most recently, she defeated the Swiss player Belinda Bencic 6-1, 6-4, an hour and nine minutes.

However, in her game against Bencic, she committed 19 unforced errors but kept her first service win rate at 86%. Kvitova has been quite great this year, having just won her first title in Sydney last week.

The veteran Czech broke into the top 10 last season after winning big events in St. Petersburg, Qatar, and Madrid. She also qualified for the WTA Finals but lost in the robin round there.

Kvitova v Anisimova – Head to Head

The two players have met only once and surprisingly, it is Anismova who won that encounter. The then 16-year-old defeated Kvitova in the third round of the Indian Wells.

Kvitova v Anisimova – Who Will Win?

While Kvitova will start this match with odds stacked in her favour, her defeat to the young American from the previous season will be on the back of her mind. Moreover, Anisimova’s ruthless form in Melbourne has left many surprised and Kvitova will be sure to take note of that. In order to win here, she will have to avoid giving space to the American to hit big shots.

This is going to be an entertaining fixture that can very well go either way.
