Donna Vekic v Vera Zvonareva Head to Head

Zvonareva and Vekic have met each other on the tour only once. That match took place in the second round of the 2014 Wimbledon, where Zvonareva won in straight sets.

Vekic Delivers a Massive Upset

The World No. 30 is heading into this fixture after achieving a remarkable feat. She knocked out the defending champion, the World No. 2 Petra Kvitova in the quarterfinal in straight sets. The match lasted for an hour and 24 minutes and Vekic won with 6-4, 6-1, winning five break points in the process.

This is the second time that the 22-year-old Croat has made it to the semifinal this season. The first time around she did this was in Brisbane, where she finally lost to Karolina Pliskova in the semis.

Vekic is a player who is capable of delivering some interesting results. Last year, she was the runner-up in Washington and also was a semifinalist in Tokyo. She still has a lot of room to improve her game although, she has been fairly impressive so far this year.

Is This Zvonareva’s Resurgence?

Just like Vekic, the 34-year-old Russian has made it to the semifinal for the second time this season. She had a similar run in Shenzhen earlier this year, where she lost to Alison Riske.

The former World No. 2 is seeking her first singles title since 2011. Her last few years have been marked by a few breaks from the tour owing to injuries and motherhood. She returned to the circuit with full focus only in 2017 and started with winning an ITF title.

Last season, she won her first WTA doubles title in six years in St. Petersburg and Moscow. Needless to mention, Zvonareva seems to play considerably better on her home turf and this has been evident in her performance this time around too.

On her route to the semifinal, the two-time Grand Slam runner-up has knocked out many big names like Ekaterina Makarova, Julia Goerges, and most recently, Russian No. 1 Daria Kasatkina.

Vekic v Zvonareva – Who Will Win?

Despite the massive age difference between the two players, Vekic and Zvonareva have been in a similar form of late. Both of them have been quite consistent this year and this is going to be a fiercely-contested tie. Vekic will start as the favourite here owing to her seeding and past form. However, Zvonareva can very well deliver yet another upset here and reach the final.

Owing to this epic tie, bet365 are offering 1/2 on Vekic and 13/8 on Zvonareva.

You can watch & bet on Donna Vekic v Vera Zvonareva here on Saturday, February 2. The match will start not before 3:30 pm local time (12:30 pm BST).
