Karen Khachanov v Matteo Berrettini Head to Head

This will be the first time that the two players are set to face each other on the circuit.

Khachanov Looking to Build his Momentum

The World No. 11 has been pegged as one of the few rising stars who can upset the top order on the ATP Tour and usher in a new era. Last season, he came increasingly close to breaking into the top 10 but had to settle for the 11th place.

He won three singles title over the course of the year, starting with Marseille and then Moscow later in the season. However, what took him into the spotlight was his performance in the Paris Masters. The 22-year-old won the tournament and his biggest title till date after moving past some big names like John Isner, Alexander Zverev, Dominic Thiem and finally, Novak Djokovic.

This time around, however, he has started the year on a dull note. He lost in the first round in Doha to Stan Wawrinka and made it as far as the third round in the Australian Open. Khachanov also represented his country in the Davis Cup qualifier and won both of his singles matches against the Swiss team.

Berrettini – Another Rising Star?

It is fair to say that the ATP Tour right now is witnessing a drastic influx of young players who are seeking to make a name for themselves and reach the top. While last year was dominated by the antics of Khachanov, Zverev, and Stefanos Tsitsipas, the likes of Matteo Berrettini were silently working hard in the background.

Towards the start of the previous season, the young Italian spent his time on the Challenger circuit to build his form. He enjoyed a good run there and eventually, he found himself in the top 100. In most of the tournaments, he started as a qualifier but never really managed to make it past the early rounds.

However, he did win his first singles title of the season in Gstaad, after defeating Roberto Bautista Agut in the final in straight sets. He also reached the quarterfinal in Kitzbuhel.

As for his run this year, Berrettini has won only two matches so far – one in Sydney and one in the Davis Cup.

Khachanov v Berrettini Prediction and Tips

The Russian has been awarded the top seed for the tournament. He is going to start this match as the favourite to win although, he can expect some resistance from his Italian counterpart. This is going to be a great match between the two youngsters.
