Diego Schwartzman v Alessandro Giannessi Head to Head

The two players have never met on the ATP Tour prior to this encounter.

Schwartzman – A Player Worthy of Consideration

The Argentinean may have started his season on a dull note but it does not necessarily mean that he is not capable of winning big matches. Earlier this year, he reached the semifinal in Sydney after which, he reached the third round at the Australian Open.

Last season, Schwartzman reached his career-best singles ranking as the World No. 11 shortly after reaching the quarterfinal of the French Open. It was in this tournament that the 26-year-old defeated some big names like Borna Coric and Kevin Anderson.

He had also won the Rio Open earlier that season after defeating Fernando Verdasco in the final in straight sets. However, towards the end of the season, his form took a small hit as he ended up losing in the early rounds. The exception to this was the European Open, where he was a semifinalist.

Giannessi’s Best Run of the Season

Alessandro Giannessi started his year with the Australian Open, where he lost in the first round of the qualifiers. He then switched to the Challenger circuit and played in the Punta Open in Uruguay. Once again, he lost in the first round there.

It wasn’t until he arrived in Cordoba that he finally found his momentum. Not only did the World No. 168 move past the qualifiers, but he also won his first round fixture against Thiago Seyboth Wild in three demanding sets.

With that win, the Italian has achieved his best result on the tour since ATP Quito last year. There too, he reached the second round as a qualifier but that was the best he could do. As for his spell in the previous season, he mainly played in the Challenger competitions.

Schwartzman v Giannessi Prediction and Tips
