Stefanos Tsitsipas v Gäel Montfils Head to Head

The pair have met just the once before in the Shanghai Masters last October, Tsitsipas winning a tight opening round fixture 6-7, 6-4, 6-4.

Tsitsipas, on the Verge of Top Ten

Tsitsipas has been one of the break-out stars of 2019 to date, following his run to the semi-finals in Melbourne, where he out-lasted Roger Federer in the fourth round before eventually succumbing to Rafael Nadal in the last four.

That appeared to confirm the promise he showed in 2018 where he was named the ATP’s Most Improved Player for the season, winning the Stockholm Open and, in the process, becoming the first Greek player to win an ATP title. He also won the Next Gen Finals to confirm his status as one of the men to watch for the future.

Now ranked 12 in the world, he will be looking to break into the world’s top ten in the next few months, and will regard Sofia as an excellent stepping stone towards that objective.

Monfils, an Experienced and Seasoned Pro

Monfils, at 32 is nearer the end of his career than the beginning. A pro since 2004, he has won seven career titles, the most recent of which came at the Qatar Open last year.

However, despite reaching a career high ranking of sixth as recently as November 2016, he has garnered a reputation for flamboyancy during his career, sometimes at the expense of consistency.

His first tournament of the year was the Australian Open where, despite being seeded 30 he was knocked out in the second round by the American Taylor Fritz in four sets.

So far this week he has enjoyed a comfortable passage to the quarter-finals beating both Viktor Troiki and Mikhail Kukushkin in straight sets to get to this stage. Tsitsipas, however, is a different proposition.

Tsitsipas v Monfils Predictions & Tips

Tsitipas will start the match as odds-on favourite 4/6, whilst Monfils is 11/8.

This is the sort of match that Tsitsipas should be winning if he wants to continue his progress into the world’s top 10. Monfils will have home crowd support, but will need to be at the top of his game to progress.

You can watch & bet on Stefanos Tsitsipas v Gäel Monfils on Friday, February 8. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 pm local time.
