Former doubles world number one Sania Mirza is going to have a biopic made on her according to the Indian tennis legend.
Mirza, who has won six Grand Slam titles, said she has signed up an agreement for her biopic and work on the movie has already started.
Speaking to the media at an event, Mirza said it felt good to have finalised the contract around her biopic and confirmed the talks had bee going on for some time. Ronnie Screwvala is expected to be the producer for this movie.
She also said:
“It’s all going to be mutual understanding. I think that obviously my input is important. Because, it’s my story. So, I will have to.”
Mirza confirmed the plans were currently at the very “initial stages” and the announcement was made for the first time today.
The tennis star, who is now on a break from the sport after the delivery of her first child said:
“It will slowly get into the director, the writing, after that the casting. It’s still a bit long way to go.”
She has already confirmed she will be looking to return to the sport by the end of the year, after having taken a maternity break.
Mirza won her first ever Grand Slam title at the 2009 Australian Open when she partnered Indian star Mahesh Bhupathi to beat Nathalie Dechy and Andy Ram in the final. She went on to clinch the women’s and mixed doubles at all the other three Grand Slams, partnering Martina Hingis in three of those title wins.
Her highest singles ranking was 27th in August 2007, and she has also won one singles WTA title. Injuries played a part in Mirza deciding to wrap up her singles career and focus solely on doubles.
