Frances Tiafoe v Jason Jung Head to Head
The pair have met once before on the ITF Futures tour, with Tiafoe getting the better of his opponent in the semi-finals of the USA F11 Futures in 2015 in three sets, winning 5-7, 6-1, 6-4.
Tiafoe – A Rising American Star
21-year-old Tiafoe has been in the national spotlight in America since he was 14-years old, not only because of the glittering career he enjoyed as a junior, but also because of his unusual family background – he is the son of immigrants from Sierra Leone.
Hyped as the next big star of US tennis, he began to show signs of realising that potential on the ATP Challenger Tour, winning four titles and reaching a further five finals.
2018 was the year he began to make his mark on the senior tour, breaking into the Top 50, and then winning his first ATP Tour title, beating German Peter Gojowczyk in the final of the Delray Beach Open last February.
He is now the second highest ranked American player in the ATP World rankings behind John Isner.
Jung – Professional Tennis Player and Blogger
Jung has played most of his career on the ITF and Challengers Tour, and has yet to make a major impression on the game as a senior, although his current world ranking of 118 is his highest to date. Although born in California he qualifies to represent Taiwan through his parents, and plays under their flag.
Arguably he is better known for his off-court persona than for his exploits on the court – he writes a regular blog about his life and experiences as a tennis player.
He also has something in common with his next opponent. Both he and Tiafoe featured in an ESPN article detailing the low prize money and the struggles associated with playing on the ITF Futures Tour.
Tiafoe v Jung Predictions & Tips
As might be expected Tiafoe is odds-on to win the match at 1/6, given that he is playing somebody ranked 89 places below him in the world rankings. Jung is quoted at 19/4 but, win or lose, he will probably write about it in his blog.
