Angelique Kerber v Dalila Jakupovic Head to Head

This will be the first time that the two players will face each other on the WTA Tour.

Kerber Looking for a Big Win in Dubai

Kerber started the season this year as the World No. 2 but on the back of a pretty frustrating run, she moved down to the seventh position. It isn’t that Kerber has been playing bad tennis, it is just that her opponents in the later rounds have been quite formidable.

To begin with, the 2018 Wimbledon champion lost in the quarterfinal in Sydney to Petra Kvitova and in the fourth round in Melbourne to an inspiring Danielle Collins. She went to Doha last week with a similar intention, seeking her first title of the season.

Over there, she started off well but ran into Elise Mertens in the semifinal – a fixture that ended in a three-set defeat for Kerber.

Kerber had a pretty solid season last year, especially considering that the year before, she was struggling with her form and was knocked out of the top 20. Along with the Wimbledon, she reached the semifinal in Eastbourne and the quarterfinal in the Italian Open and Roland Garros. She also qualified for the WTA Finals but didn’t move past the group stage.

Jakupovic Gets her First Win of the Season

After a highly disappointing start to the year, the 27-year-old Slovenian finally found some reason to be happy about in Dubai.

Before the Middle East swing, Jakupovic played in the Australian Open Series, in addition to Shenzhen earlier this year. In the three tournaments she played in, the World No. 85 never made it past the first round.

In fact, in Dubai, Jakupovic lost in the qualifiers to Jennifer Brady but got a main draw ticket as the lucky loser. Needless to mention, she defeated Zarina Diyas in the first round 1-6, 6-1, 6-2, to set up the Kerber clash.

Kerber v Jakupovic Predictions & Tips

It comes as no surprise to see Kerber starting as the favourite for this one, with Betway offering 1/12 for it. Jakupovic, on the other hand, will be the underdog here with the odds being 13/2. The chances are slim for the Slovenian to deliver an upset here although, the possibility is there.
