Kei Nishikori v Hubert Hurkacz Head to Head

The two men have met once before, and Nishikori will not have fond memories of their match at the Dubai Open a few weeks ago, when the Pole surprised the number one seed, beating him 6-2 in the third set in a second round match.

Quick Chance for Revenge for Nishikori

The number six seed has an early chance to avenge that Dubai defeat, but he is lucky to have even got this far, having been pushed all the way by Adrian Mannarino of France in his second round match on Sunday, and having to rely on a third set tie-break to get through against the world number 52.

If he plays like that, and as he did in Dubai, then he will have a major struggle on his hands to reach the fourth round. However, if the man who won his 12th ATP senior title in Brisbane in January, and then went on to reach the quarter-final in Melbourne shows up, he should have too much for his opponent.

Yep, the Japanese player is coming off a start to the season he would like, having gritted out four wins at the first major of the year, having done the same in Brisbane earlier to win the title.

Hurkacz Enjoying his Best Season

22 year-old Hurkacz is enjoying the form of his life, with that win in Dubai helping to propel him to a career high world ranking of sixty-seven. He has made good progress here in Indian Wells, benefitting from a favourable draw, which saw him put out wildcard Donald Young in the first round.

Then he edged out the 28th seed, Lucas Pouille of France, in three sets, in their second round meeting on Monday.

Normally, Kishikori would be considered a much more difficult challenge, but with the recent victory over the Japanese player in Dubai fresh in both their minds, he has little to fear on Tuesday.

Nishikori v Hurkacz Predictions & Tips

Nishikori will start the favourite at 3/8, whilst you can get 9/4 on Hurkacz. Given their previous meeting, these odds seem generous for those looking to bet on the Pole, and an upset cannot be discounted again, especially if Nishikori’s form is as patchy as it was in his second round match.

Tip: Nishikori to win in three sets: 29/10 (Unibet)
