Garbine Muguruza v Bianca Andreescu Head to Head

This is the first time that Muguruza and Andreescu will face each other on the tour.

Muguruza Marches On

Muguruza’s performance in Indian Wells is undoubtedly one of the best ones she has delivered in a considerably long time. The last time she had a run resembling something like this was in the 2018 WTA Hong Kong when she reached the semifinal.

Even though the Spaniard started this season on a rather dull note, she has made up for parts of it with her brilliant stint in Indian Wells. She was handed a rather tricky draw, to begin with, but has come out of it strong and confident.

She also got fairly lucky in the third round when Serena Williams – her opponent – withdrew from the match due to illness. Muguruza faced her first real test in the round of 16 against the seventh seed Kiki Bertens. The match lasted for close to two and a half hours and saw the Spaniard win with 5-7, 6-1, 6-4.

Following her last couple of tournaments, where she lost in the third round, it is certainly refreshing to see her make an impression once again.

Andreescu Continues Her Clinical Run

The 18-year-old Canadian, who has earned the reputation of being a giant killer, has reached the quarterfinal on the tour for the third time in a row.

Shortly after her second round stint in the Australian Open, she won the 125K Series event in Newport Beach and followed it with a semifinal run in the Mexican Open. Between these two events, she also won her Fed Cup ties against the Dutch team.

In Indian Wells, with the sole exception of the first round, she has not dropped a single set on her way to the quarterfinal. Over the course, she edged past the likes of Dominika Cibulkova, Stefanie Vogele and most recently, Qiang Wang.

A performance like this one makes her one of the top favourites to go the distance. Earlier this year in Auckland, she was the runner-up – a feat she achieved after defeating Caroline Wozniacki and Venus Williams. Last year, she spent most of her time on the ITF circuit, collecting two titles and two runner-up trophies.

Garbine Muguruza v Bianca Andreescu Predictions & Tips

On one hand, Muguruza as a two-time Grand Slam champion has a lot of winning experience. On the other hand, Andreescu’s rise has been truly phenomenal and it will take a lot more than experience to stop her. This will be a close encounter than can very go either way but one thing is certain – this will be highly entertaining.

Tip: : Over 2 sets in the match: 6/4 (Bet365)
