Caroline Wozniacki v Aliaksandra Sasnovich Head to Head
The pair have met twice before, in the US Open in 2014, and at Indian Wells two years later. On each occasion Woznacki emerged the winner, but Sanovich did take her to three sets in that California meeting.
Wozniacki Desperately Searching for Form
Wozniacki has had a disappointing start to 2019. The former world number one and Australian Open champion, began the year losing in the round of 16 to Bianca Andreescu in Auckland, before Maria Sharapova ended her defence of her title in the third round in Melbourne.
She pulled out of Doha and, in her first match back since that break, in Indian Wells, was beaten by the world number 57, Ekaterina Alexandrov, in three sets. Wozniacki hasn’t won too many matches in a row and while some of it can be attributed to her health issues, her fight against Rheumatoid Arthritis, she would want to overcome her form.
She will be hoping to find some sort of form and consistency in Florida this week to arrest her slide down the world rankings to the number 13th position.
Sasnovich Hoping to Overcome Second Round Jinx
25-year old Sasnovich is making her fourth appearance in Miami but, perhaps ominously for her, she has been beaten at the second round stage the last two years – by Johanna Konta in 2017, and Anastasia Pavlychenkova last year.
To get to this stage, she had a tense battle on Thursday, coming from a set down to beat Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic, so will be hoping that her efforts did not take too much out of her as she looks to upset the odds against the Dane.
