Simona Halep v Qiang Wang Head to Head

The two players have met only once and that match took place in the 2018 Indian Wells Open. Halep won that match in straight sets.

Halep Looking Confident in Miami

The number 2 seed has had a rather good spell in Miami so far as she looks primed to reach the semifinal and possibly, go beyond. She can very well become the World No. 1 again and for that to happen, she needs to reach the final.

So far in Miami, she has moved past the likes of Taylor Townsend, Polona Hercog, and Venus Williams. Her match against Williams was particularly impressive, as she defeated the three-time champion in straight sets.

The Romanian hasn’t had an ideal start to the season. Following early losses in the WTA Sydney and Australian Open, she eventually moved on to reach the final in WTA Doha. The reigning French Open champion then reached the quarterfinal in Dubai where she lost to Belinda Bencic.

As for her performance in Indian Wells, she was knocked out by Marketa Vondrousova in the fourth round.

Wang’s Best Performance of the Season

Wang has had a rather brilliant time in Miami. Starting as the number 18 seed, she first defeated Johanna Konta to set up a third-round clash with Serena Williams. With Williams opting to withdraw from the tournament, she got a walkover and moved on to face Yafan Wang next.

She defeated her compatriot in straight sets to reach the quarterfinal. Last year, Wang had an epic run as she managed to reach her career-best singles ranking as the World No. 18. She won the titles in Jiangxi and Guangzhou, along with reaching the final in the Hong Kong Open and WTA Elite Trophy.

Considering her performance this season, it hasn’t been as great as Halep’s but she has had her moments. She reached the fourth round in Indian Wells and semifinal in the 125K Series version of the same tournament.

Halep v Wang Predictions & Tips

Halep will start this match as the overwhelming favourite to win. Wang has had a good run so far but it is quite unlikely that she will move past the Romanian.

Tip: Halep to win 2-0: 1/1 (Bet365)
