Alexander Zverev v Frances Tiafoe Head to Head
The head-to-head between these two players has been one-sided over the years, with the young German establishing a 4-1 advantage.
In the five matches between them, they have contested their meetings in either a Masters 1000 or in a Grand Slam. Their most recent match was at the 2019 US Open when Zverev triumphed in five sets in the second round.

The German has been handed a familiar foe in his opener at the China Open as he battles American Frances Tiafoe. The two recently met at the US Open at the end of last month.
Zverev lost in the second round at last year’s edition of the China Open, and with plenty of points to defend at the season-ending Nitto ATP Finals in November, one can only fathom this would be an ideal week to put points on the board.

Lack Of Match Fitness Could Be Cause For Concern For Tiafoe
Frances Tiafoe last struck a ball exactly a month ago, and ironically it was against Zverev – the man he will play in the opening round of the China Open on his return to competitive tennis.
The 21-year-old American was left out of Team World’s participants at this year’s Laver Cup and he could be a victim of a lackluster performance.
Tiafoe’s results in the second half of the season haven’t exactly mirrored his outstanding first half of the campaign where he reached his maiden Grand Slam quarterfinal at the Australian Open and the last eight of a Masters 1000 tournament in Miami.

Tiafoe had his opportune moment to beat Zverev in front of his home crowd at the US Open. That, combined with the fact that the German was already drained of energy after playing over three hours in his first match at Flushing Meadows should have counted in Tiafoe’s favor. Except that Zverev showed remarkable resilience and patience to dig out a win. With conditions in Beijing not too dissimilar from New York, this has the making of another classic.
