Ana Bogdan is off to a 1-3 start in 2023. The Romanian lost her first qualifying round in Adelaide-1; she got her only win of the season in the first qualifying round in Adelaide-2, but she failed to make the main draw after falling in the second qualifying round.
She then participated at the Australian Open for the fifth time but she made a first round exit for the fourth time from the tournament.
The 30-year-old has lost both her last two matches in three sets.
Bogdan is playing in Lyon for the third time. She lost in the first round in both the previous appearances.
She is coming off a 38-17 run in 2022 and reached her first-ever final of the WTA tour in Poland, falling to Caroline Garcia. She also captured her maiden WTA 125 title, winning in Iași, Romania.
Bogdan also won her 14th ITF title, triumphing in the hard court tournament in Andrézieux-Bouthéon, France.

Burel Looked Good in Melbourne
Clara Burel will be playing her second tournament of the season. She featured in the Australian Open and had a good start to the season.
Burel defeated Elsa Jacquemot, Carol Zhao and Olga Danilović in the three qualifying rounds and then defeated Talia Gibson to win her first-ever match in the main draw of the Australian Open. She was eventually ousted by Barbora Krejcikova in the second round.
The 21-year-old Frenchwoman, who reached her only WTA final in Lausanne in 2021, struggled for most parts of 2022.
Her best performance last year included a run to the third round of the U.S. Open. It was the first time that Burel had reached that stage in a Grand Slam. In addition, she reached three WTA 125 quarterfinals, but didn’t have an encouraging run in the other tournaments.
She is off to a good start in 2023, can she pull of her second main draw win of the season on Tuesday?
