Australian Open Tips, Predictions & Odds for 2018

Who will win the 2018 Australian Open? It’s still early days but we have the latest Australian Open tips, predictions & odds from the famous bookmakers here.

The defending Australian Open champion in the men’s half is Roger Federer, while in the women’s half, it is Serena Williams. Both the players have outdone themselves in their respective fields and set new standards for others to follow.

Federer returned to the tour in 2017 January, after taking a six month hiatus from the tour in order to recuperate. Needless to mention, the recovery did wonders to his form, and we got to see a new side to the Swiss. At the age of 35, he won his 18th Grand Slam and showed that he is indeed the greatest of all time.

As for Williams, she defeated her sister Venus in the final to win the Australian Open for the seventh time in the Open Era. That win took her Grand Slams tally to 23 in total, making her the World No. 1 at the end of the tournament.

After the event, she pulled out from the two subsequent masters event in Miami and Indian Wells, before missing out on the remainder of the season, citing her pregnancy. Interestingly, the timing of her pregnancy meant that she was eight weeks pregnant when she won the Australian Open!

Both the players are of the same age and it will be highly interesting to see if they will be back to defend their titles in Melbourne in 2018. Apart from them, fans will be hoping for Novak Djokovic to return too, who pulled out of the remainder 2017 season owing to injury.

Tennis enthusiasts will have high hopes from Rafael Nadal as well, whose resurgence in the 2017 has proven that the Spaniard can still win big games and go the distance. As for the likes of Andy Murray and Stan Wawrinka, they have faded from the scene after an inconsistent, rocky display on the tour. We can only hope that they turn this around in Melbourne next year.

As for the women’s half, the very unpredictability in the rankings is what makes it interesting to follow. Ever since Williams left the scene, the race has been on to reach the top. Karolina Pliskova leads the ranking at the top place, followed by Simona Halep at the second.

Angelique Kerber has dropped down to the third spot after a lack of show in 2017, and one can only hope for her revival in Melbourne, if she wants to retain her place in the top 10.

Caroline Wozniacki too has been playing well off lately and after a decent season in 2017, she will certainly fancy her chances in the Australian Open 2018.

Elina Svitolina and Garbine Muguruza are up there, constantly making it harder for other ladies to rise up in the rankings with their stellar, consistent performances. After watching their performance this season, chances are they will outdo themselves and break new records.
