Garcia Is 29-16 In 2023

After losing her opening match in the round of 16 in Washington last week, Caroline Garcia will look to return to winning ways in Montreal.

The fifth seed, who had a first round bye, faces a tough opener against a player who is ranked 31 places below her in the rankings, but has won all three of their previous fixtures.

While that stat would put a bit of pressure on Garcia, she will take heart from the fact that it will be their first meeting outside the grass courts.

An 11-time tour level champion from 16 finals, Garcia played in two finals this year, finishing runner-up in both of them in Lyon and Monterrey respectively.

In her other notable performances this year, Garcia had five quarterfinal finishes.

Garcia is playing at the Canadian Open for the ninth time and her best performances came in 2017 and 2018 as she reached the quarterfinals in both those years.

Bouzkova Takes Down Day

World no. 37 Marie Bouzkova began her campaign with a straight sets win over American qualifier Kayla Day in the first round.

Bouzkova came back from a break down twice in the first set, before winning it in the tiebreak. She then carried the momentum into the second set and raced to a 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 victory.

While the first set was a tight one, Bouzkova was the dominant player in the second set. She didn’t face a single break point but converted 2 of 7 in the set to beat the world no. 100.

The 25-year-old, who has had a tough time so far this year, improved her season record to 15-18 across levels and 7-10 on hard courts.

She had a terrible start to the season but has found form in recent months, reaching the round of 16 in Rome and Wimbledon.

At the Canadian Open, this is Bouzkova’s fourth appearance. She was a semifinalist in 2019, but lost in the opening round in the past two years.

Garcia v Bouzkova Prediction and Tip

Having lost all three of their previous meetings, Garcia will be under pressure, but this is their first meeting on hard court and Garcia has been in much better form than Bouzkova on the surface. Expect the Frenchwoman to get her first win over the Czech and move into the round fo 16.

Tips:

  • Low Risk Tip: Garcia to win: 1/3
  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 21.5 games in the match: 5/6
