Milos Raonic v Taro Daniel Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two and both have been won by Raonic. They were played in 2014 and 2018 and in hardcourt competitions.

Raonic Stuns Tiafoe

Despite starting out as a 21/10 underdog in his opening round encounter against the world number 10 Frances Tiafoe, Raonic set the court on fire with a comeback from behind win.

Raonic was on court for two hours and 42 minutes, missed three set-points in the opening set, one in the second and saved four of his own before clinching a 6-7 (12), 7-6 (4), 6-3 victory over Tiafoe.

In a match where neither player was easy to break, Raonic edged past his opponent by saving three break-points in the first game of the decider and two more in the third while overpowering Tiafoe’s serve in the second.

From that point onward, it was only when Raonic served for the match at 5-3 did he have any difficulties with the serve but he came through in the end,

This was Raonic’s third win of a season which could well be his last on the tennis circuit. Can he push on to make it to the third round of his home tournament here?

Daniel Stuns Mannarino

Adrian Mannarino has had a second wind to his long career and his form during the grass swing was an indicator of that. So much so, the veteran tennis player broke into the top 30 of the rankings again and entered this match against Daniel as a 1/2 favourite.

Daniel had other ideas though.

Having registered straight-set wins over Dane Sweeny and Corentin Moutet in the qualifiers of this tournament, Daniel overcame Mannarino 7-6 (5), 6-4 in the first round here. In doing so he had won his first ever career match in this tournament.

This follows a string of poor performances on clay and grass for Daniel, who had earlier reached the quarterfinal of the Acapulco Open and the third round at both, the Indian Wells Masters and Miami Masters.

Can he now test out Raonic?

Raonic v Daniel Prediction and Tip

Not too many would have expected these two players to be facing off in the second round and that makes it a difficult match to call. On paper, Raonic is a favourite but we don’t think there’s too much to choose between these players.

Tips:

  • Moderate Risk Tip: Over 23.5 games in the match: 5/6
